Will a Proposed Law Take Away People’s Right to Pursue Class Action and MDL Lawsuits?

Wrongful Death Attorneys In Philadelphia PAThe Huffington Post recently featured a report about a proposed bill that was introduced into the US House of Representatives. The bill, HR 985, would effectively rob people in the US of their right to hold corporations and institutions accountable through class action lawsuits and multidistrict litigation (MDL). If this bill is voted into law, it could open the door for big corporations to defraud, injure, violate and cheat people and small businesses without fear of being held accountable.

Our firm was involved in securing the $265 million Amtrak Train No. 188 derailment settlement, the largest train accident settlement in US history. The Amtrak settlement was a product of an MDL. It provided catastrophic injury victims and the families of wrongful death victims with the financial help they needed for hospital bills, loss of income, future medical expenses and funeral costs. In addition, it may help prevent similar disasters in the future by showing those within the railroad industry the financial consequences of negligence.
