A tractor-trailer fatally struck a female pedestrian on Wednesday night around 8:35 pm. The woman was walking down Route 419 North in Marion Township, Berks County, Pennsylvania when the truck hit her. Police will investigate the accident.
Laws exist to protect pedestrians, but many times drivers are unaware or fail to adhere to the rules, which could lead to personal injuries or even fatalities for pedestrians in harm’s way. A tractor-trailer driver may not see a pedestrian in the road if it is dark, and the vehicle is speeding toward its destination. It is possible the driver may be engaging in drowsy driving, distracted driving, or even be under the influence of alcohol or drugs when the pedestrian accident occurs.
