It is always devastating to read a local report that talks about a driver or passenger that perished in a car accident while unrestrained. In many instances, these tragedies are particularly sad because so many could have been avoided with the use of a seat belt.
We never pass on an opportunity to emphasize how critical wearing a seat belt is in mitigating against the risk of catastrophic injury or death in the event of a car accident. Whether a driver is old, young, pregnant, male or female, seat belts are critical for the safety of all.
Local police across Pennsylvania and New Jersey will be beefing up patrols in the coming weeks looking for drivers violating seat belt laws as part of the national “click it or ticket†campaign. The aim of the campaign is not to catch driver’s breaking the law, but rather to spread awareness about safe driving habits, and to protect motorist on roadways across the country.
These national campaigns usually being right around Memorial Day as many residents of Pennsylvania hit the road for summer travel plans. “Seat belts save thousands of lives every year, but far too many motorists are still not buckling up, especially at night when the risk of getting in a crash is even greater,†warns the acting director of the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety.
Since seat belts are important for the entire family, Pennsylvania State Police will also be providing complimentary child safety seat inspections. So to protect your safety and protect your wallet from a ticket, remember to buckle up!
