Recording of the Recent House Subcommittee Hearing on Consumer Products and Cancer
Members of the Subcommittee on Economic and Consumer Policy recently heard testimony on cancer-causing consumer products. During the hearing, several people, including individuals who were harmed by these products, provided testimony before members of the committee. One of the topics of discussion was the link between talcum powder cosmetic products and certain types of cancer. Johnson & Johnson and other companies have faced lawsuits from consumers who allege they developed ovarian cancer or mesothelioma after using these products.
We encourage you to watch the video below to learn more about what was discussed at the hearing, as this is an extremely important policy issue. At the moment, the FDA has little regulatory power in the cosmetics market. As a result, cosmetic products that contain known human carcinogens continue to be sold to U.S. consumers.
