When you are sitting in the safety of your own home in Philadelphia, the possibility of becoming involved in a car accident is likely the last thing on your mind. Yet for one young girl, the walls of her home were no match for a car that barreled through them and hit her as she was sitting in her dining room.
The car accident happened in Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood around 6:30 in the evening. Witnesses say that the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and hit a parked car and a stop sign. Apparently that wasn’t enough to stop him, because he crashed into the 12-year-old girl’s house. The impact was so severe that the girl’s neighbor felt it while he was inside his own home. The car came to rest approximately three feet inside the house.
The girl suffered abdominal injuries and was taken to the hospital where she was listed in serious condition. The 24-year-old driver was uninjured, but his 17-year-old passenger suffered injuries to his legs and chest which required hospitalization. The car was evidently a stolen vehicle, so the driver will answer to charges related to that crime as well as aggravated assault charges.
The family of the 12-year-old injured in this accident would be well advised to speak to a personal injury attorney regarding their right to compensation for her injuries. Doing so may enable them to be properly compensated for her medical bills and the damage done to their home.
