Mother sues after newborn sustains birth injuries

The birth of a baby can be one of the most exciting times in the lives of parents in Philadelphia. It can also be very stressful. This is why parents can tend to rely on their doctor so much. They place a large amount of trust in their physician and expect him or her to do everything in his or her power to ensure the safety and wellbeing of both mother and baby.

A mother was let down after her newborn sustained serious birth injuries as a result of the apparent negligence of her doctors. The woman said her doctors did not properly assess the weight of her infant before he was born. If they had, maybe they would have found out that the baby would be too large to be delivered vaginally.

As it was, the baby’s head was delivered after the mother went into labor on August 12, 2011, but because of his size, his shoulder became stuck. In an attempt to free the baby’s shoulder, the doctor subjected the infant to pressure that was excessive. This resulted in the baby sustaining permanent injury to his nerves and limited use and pain in that limb.

The mother has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit on behalf of her child against the two doctors and the hospital where the baby was delivered. She is suing for over $50,000. Hopefully her lawsuit will enable her to be properly compensated for the injuries her newborn sustained as a result of the negligence of the defendants named in the suit.
