FDA to conduct research on safety of testosterone drugs

As a man gets older, he may experience a dip in his energy levels, lowered libido and a number of other symptoms that are part of the normal aging process. Many men in Philadelphia may turn to their doctors for help with these symptoms, especially if they have been exposed to increasing advertisements from drug manufacturers who tout the benefits of testosterone replacement. These advertisements can be appealing to men who are looking for relief from their symptoms, but who may not necessarily have a clinical condition of low testosterone. Oftentimes these men are placed on testosterone replacement drugs without realizing the potentially dangerous effects they may have.

A number of studies conducted recently put into question the safety of testosterone drugs. The results of one study were so concerning that it prompted the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to conduct more research on the potentially dangerous drugs. The study looked at men with coronary issues who began testosterone therapy. Researchers found that within the first 90 days of treatment with testosterone drugs, men under the age of 65 were two to three times more likely to experience a heart attack while men who were over the age of 65 were twice as likely.

If you have experienced heart problems while on testosterone replacement therapy, you may be entitled to compensation for your injuries and medical expenses. You would be well advised to speak with a personal injury attorney to discuss your case and find out the best way to proceed.
