18-month Old Left Paralyzed After Being Hit by Drunk Driver

Oftentimes, when a person gets behind the wheel while intoxicated, he may not think that he is posing a danger to anyone else besides himself. Yet all too often this just isn’t the case as many innocent bystanders have been injured and even killed at the hands of drunk drivers in Philadelphia.

A young baby was left badly injured after a drunk driver crashed into his stroller on a sidewalk in Oceanside, California. The boy was 18-months old at the time and was out for a walk with his grandfather. The driver who hit the stroller was a high school student who had almost three times the legal amount of alcohol in his system at the time.

The baby sustained severe brain damage and paralysis from his chest down. He also suffered a collapsed lung and damage to his immune system. As a result, he is susceptible to infection and was hospitalized for a third of 2013. Now at age 4, he depends on machines in order to breathe and get nourishment.

The boy’s 24-year-old father takes care of him full time while his 25-year-old mother works to make ends meet. They were recently presented with a trust fund valued at over $170,000 from the Dr. Phil Foundation to help them cover the costs of the boy’s treatments and medical equipment.

These parents would be well advised to speak with a personal injury attorney regarding their right to compensation from the drunk driver who changed the course of their son’s life forever.

It takes a specific mindset, specialized skills and substantial resources. The types of cases we handle are not the average personal injury. They involve severe, permanent injuries to people that radically affect their lives forever, or in some instances, even cause their death.
