General Motors Corporation recently announced that it is recalling almost 600,000 of its 2000-2002 model year full size sport utility vehicles due to incidents of people pinching their fingers when forwarding the seats. In response to 14 such incidents, 10 of them involving children, the world’s largest automaker is recalling Chevrolet Tahoe, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon and Denali SUVs. Not included in the recall are the Chevrolet Suburban, Avalanche, Cadillac Escalade EXT and GMC Yukon XL.
GM has received reports that people have pinched their fingers by inadvertently REPLACEing them through a slot in the upholstery when the headrest was being folded down while the second row seats were being moved from upright to the stowed position. GM has indicated that it will install plastic shields over each head restraint mechanism to protect fingers.
Recalled vehicles can be taken to any Chevrolet, Cadillac or GM dealer to have the shields installed free of charge.
