Premphase
Premphase contains even higher doses of the same dangerous combination of hormones found in Prempro. Premphase is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) medication consisting of conjugated equine estrogens (Premarin) and medroxyprogesterone acetate (progestin.)
Like Premarin and Prempro, Premphase is manufactured by Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, and manages the symptoms of menopause, such as vaginal dryness, night sweats, and hot flashes. Premphase has also been touted as a way to help prevent the development of osteoporosis.
Premphase is subject to the same scrutiny as Prempro, which, in 2002, was found to cause a 26% increase in breast cancer, 41% increase in strokes, 100% increase in blood clots, and 22% increase in cardiovascular disease in women, when compared to placebos. Following the announcement of the terminated Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study, HRT sales plummeted, and the FDA suggested additional warnings for Premarin, Premphase and Prempro.
Other studies have indicated a relationship between usage of combination HRT and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma (NHL), particularly follicular cell lymphoma, and gall bladder cancer. More information on the danger of HRTs, such as Premphase, can be found at the Food and Drug Administration Website.
Despite the obvious health risks involved in using Premphase, women still receive prescriptions for Premphase and face health complications as a result. If you or a loved one took Premphase and developed any of the complications mentioned above, contact the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area Premphase lawyers for a case review.
